The placenta is a fetus’s life-support system! This organ develops in the uterus during pregnancy. It brings your unborn baby the oxygen, nutrients, and hormones it needs to grow and develop. It also helps filter and get rid of any waste.
The placenta is temporary. After you deliver your baby, you’ll deliver the placenta. This is commonly called the afterbirth.
