Self-care is important to both our physical health and mental well‑being. Research suggests that engaging in self-care practices can help reduce stress and improve mood. But finding ways to look after yourself isn’t always easy. The usual recommendations like taking a long soak in a tub, lighting aromatic candles, practicing yoga, or getting massages can feel good, but they can also be limiting.

Self-care isn’t a one-size-fits-all practice. What works for your friend, co-worker, or sibling may not be right for you. And that’s okay. When it comes to creating your own self-care plan, it’s essential that it meets your needs.

If you’ve been struggling to come up with ideas for how to prioritize your needs and support your physical and mental health, we’ve assembled a collection of suggestions. Try a few—or all—and see which ones you connect with.
