Need a simple self-care activity that takes less than five minutes? Try gratitude journaling. Every day, write down three things you’re thankful for—anything from the smell of freshly cut grass to a lovely brunch with friends.

In a 2017 study, participants kept a daily gratitude journal for three weeks. Researchers found increased gratitude and positive affect in participants who kept up with their journaling over the three-week span. As the researchers noted, “counting one’s blessings” on a daily basis can help you better cope with stress and stabilize your mood.
