Blood glucose is the term used to describe the sugar in your blood. It may also be called blood sugar.

Blood glucose is supplied mostly from the foods you eat. Levels go up and down based on what you eat and your activity throughout the day. Stress, sleep, illness, and certain medications can also affect blood glucose levels.

If you have diabetes, understanding how different factors affect your blood glucose levels can help you manage your condition. Together with your doctor, you’ll set target blood glucose ranges for before and after meals. You can use a blood glucose monitor to measure your levels and adjust your habits to keep your levels within a healthy range for you.
